PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fine-porous titanic oxide of high purity which is relatively high in specific surface area, excellent in heat stability, capable of controlling size of pores, and having narrow distribution of the size of the pores, and to provide a method of manufacturing the same. SOLUTION: The porous titanic oxide obtained from hydrated titanic oxide by drying and firing, the purity of the titanic oxide is >=97 wt.% in terms of oxide (TiO2 ) base, is containing one or >=2 elements selected from Si, P, Mg, Ca, Ba, Mn, Al, and Zr, volume of pores is >=0.3 ml/g, sharpness of fine pores is >=50%, and specific surface area is >=80 m<2> /g, when fired at 500 deg.C for 3 hr. In the method of manufacturing the porous titanic oxide of high purity, the hydrated titanic oxide before drying, and firing contains one or >=2 compounds of elements selected from Si, P, Mg, Ca, Ba, Mn, Al, and Zr elements as a grain growth regulation agent.
