An adjustable headband for a crash helmet has the two ends of the band fitted with rigid bars cut with a toothed profile on adjacent edges with the ends overlapping. The two ends are located into a housing made of two sections fitted together and are adjusted via a single pinion wheel which grips both toothed profiles. The pinion is operated by an attached thumbwheel to provide a direct and rapid adjustment of the headband.
