PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for preventing polymerization of an aromatic vinyl compound, capable of not only preventing the polymerization at an initial stage, but also preventing the polymerization effectively for a long period, and excellent in handleability in a process of production, purification, storage or transportation of the aromatic vinyl compound. SOLUTION: This method for preventing polymerization of the aromatic vinyl compound comprises adding a combination of (A) one or more kinds of quinones having hydroxyl group(s) and (B) one or more kinds of sulfonic acids to a monomer of the aromatic vinyl compound in the process of production, purification, storage or transportation of the aromatic vinyl compound.
