PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for readily producing a nitrogen-containing heterocyclic compound such as 1-pyrrolin-4-one compound in high yield. SOLUTION: This method for producing the compound represented by general formula (I) is characterized in that a compound of general formula (II) is reacted in the presence of a compound of general formula (III) (in the formulas, R<1> to R<3> are each a substituent; R<4> and R<5> are each a hydrogen atom or a substituent; R<6> to R<8> are each an alkyl group or the like; X is -C(=O)- or the like; and Y is a linking group or a single bond).
