PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method with which methyltriphenylphosphonium chloride useful as a Wittig reagent, or a phase transfer catalyst can be manufactured easily efficiently on an industrial scale. SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing methyltriphenylphosphonium chloride expressed by formula (1) (wherein, Ph is phenyl) is carried out by reacting triphenylphosphine with chloroacetic acid.
