The machine has a cutter head (14) with knife (46) having an intermittendly moveable cutting edge (45), and a product support device (16) pivoted between supply and feed positions. The pivot shaft (30) for the support device is located at a distance to a support plane (26) for the product (18) and below it, and in or next to the cutting plane (44). The support device is hinged to the pivot shaft via a holder unit (28). The end of the support facing the cutter head has a stop element (70) moveable into/out of the movement path of the product. A collection container (68) for rests is positioned between support end cutter head.
