PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal projection type display device, which can prevent a polarizing plate from being damaged by improving the accuracy of detected temperature of the polarizing plate and interrupting surely the power source of a light source when the temperature of the polarizing plate becomes abnormal. SOLUTION: In the liquid crystal projection type display device having a light source 130, color separating means (104, 108), a plurality of liquid crystal panels (107, 110, 116) a plurality of incidence-side polarizing plates (120, 122, 124), a plurality of light-emitting side polarizing plates (121, 123, 125), a color composing means 118 and a projecting optical means 300, a temperature sensor 220 is directly attached to one incidence-side polarizing plate 122 and a temperature protector which interrupts the power source of the light source 130 when the detected temperature is equal to or higher than a prescribed value is constituted. Since the temperature sensor 220 is made to be directly attached to the polarizing plate 122, the temperature of the polarizing plate can be directly detected, the temperature protector having high accuracy is realized. |
