PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simplify the design and the manufacturing technique of a belt tension unit capable of being manufactured more effectively at a low cost than a conventional belt tension unit. SOLUTION: The tension unit for a traction means is provided with a receipt and mounting housing, a roller career pivotally movably connected to the receipt and mounting housing, a bearing radial and axially supporting the roller career in relation to the receipt and mounting housing, a spring arranged between the roller career and the receipt and mounting housing for impressing tension, and a damping device. A flat belt spring 10 is arranged to impress frictional force to a damping bush 9. The flat belt spring 10 is fixed to the receipt and the mounting housing 1 by a first end 11 of the flat belt spring 10, and it is rotatably fixed to the damping bush 9 by a second end 12 of the flat belt spring 10.
