PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high performance ink jet head in which a good image can be recorded with substantially no unevenness of density. SOLUTION: A head substrate 1 where an insulation layer 2a is formed on the upper surface of a single crystal silicon base plate 2 and a large number of heating resistors 3 are arranged on the insulation layer 2a along with a pair of electrodes 4, and a top plate 6 having a large number of ink ejection holes 7 corresponding to the heating resistors 3 are arranged to form a specified gap between and that gap is filled with ink 8. In such an ink jet head, the insulation layer 2a is formed of an inorganic material having a thermal conductivity lower than that of the single crystal silicon and the insulation layer 2a is formed thinner in the central region of the heating resistors 3 as compared with the opposite end regions thereof in the arranging direction.
