PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a polarizing element capable of flattening and thinning a reflective liquid crystal display device and improving reflection luminance thereof and brightening the liquid crystal display with a simple configuration. SOLUTION: In the polarizing element scattering one ray of orthogonal linearly polarizing light rays and practically transmitting another ray, the birefringence and alignment state of the optically anisotropic phase are controlled together with a particle diameter of a dispersed phase so as to change the polarization state of the scattered light. |
