PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a friction damper for spherical rotation which can adjust frictional force for absorbing energy in an arbitrary direction on a horizontal surface. SOLUTION: This friction damper for spherical rotation 1 is provided with an outer side member 3 having a spherical recessed part, an inside member 2 with an external peripheral surface in spherical shape, a tapered pin 4 inserted in a tapered hole of the inside member 2, and a lever 5 connected to the pin 4, constituted by a bottom plate 6, a side plate 7, and an upper plate 8, and held by a frame. The tapered pin 4 is inserted in the tapered hole of the inside member 2 and engaged so as to generate friction force between a spherical internal peripheral surface 3a of the outside member 3 and a spherical external peripheral surface 2a of the inside member 2, energy in the arbitrary direction on a horizontal surface is absorbed. The pin 4, as shown in an arrow mark F1 or F2 by moving the tapered hole of the inside member 2, can adjust friction force between the spherical internal peripheral surface 3a of the outside member 3 and the spherical external peripheral surface 2a of the inside member 2.
