945,574. Rolling tubes. BLAW-KNOX CO. Nov. 3, 1961 [Dec. 7, 1960], No. 39418/61. Heading B3M. A mandrel support for use in the rolling of seamless tubes of different diameters, comprises at least three rollers mounted coaxially with the pass line on arms which are moved so that the rollers are always equidistant from the pass line. As shown, three arms 42, 43, and 44, carrying rollers 32, 33 and 34, and pivotally mounted on shafts 45, 56 and 66 to a frame 31, are interconnected by links 59 and 75 such that operation of fluid pressure cylinders 52 and 72 moves the rollers inwardly to contact a mandrel 5. As the rolled tube 6 approaches the support, the cylinder 52 moves the rollers outwardly, to support the tube, and finally cylinder 72 raises roller 34 clear of the tube, by means of a sliding connection between a lever 68 and the link 75 so that arms 91 on a shaft 92 (Fig. 1) can lift and eject the rolled tube. Before rolling begins the mandrel is supported by rollers 17 which are subsequently moved clear of the mandrel while it is supported by the rollers 32, 33 and 34, by means of levers 13 connected to a longitudinally movable shaft 21. Stops 81, which are adjusted before rolling for the diameter of the tube to be rolled, determine the extent to which the rollers are moved outwardly. The tube 6 is formed from a rod 1 which is pierced as it is rolled between skew rolls 2 and 3. |
