The motor vehicle (1) has a bonnet which is movable from a normal position to a safety position under fluid pressure. The bonnet has an auxiliary power operated positioning adjuster (18) to move it back from the safety to the normal position. The bonnet can have a bellows (8.1,8.2,8.3) operated by gas pressure to lift it back to the normal position. The gas pressure can be generated by a pyrotechnic.
