PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a piston rung used as a counterpart of an aluminum alloy- made cylinder liner, capable of suppressing blow-by gas and superior in scuffing resistance and wear resistance. SOLUTION: Hard carbon films 2a and 2b are formed on at least an outer circumferential sliding face 6 of a piston ring matrix 1 comprising austenitic stainless steel having a coefficient of thermal expansion >=15×10<-6> / deg.C. The hard carbon films 2a and 2b are a hard carbon monolayer film 2a containing one or more than one element selected from W, W and Ni, and Ti, or a hard carbon laminated film 2b comprising a first hard carbon film 11 containing at least Si and a second hard carbon film 12 formed under the hard carbon film 11 and containing one or more than one element selected from W, W and Ni, and Ti.
