OPTICAL FIBER GRATING, METHOD FOR CONTROLLING REFLECTED WAVELENGTH OF OPTICAL FIBER GRATING, AND OPTICAL COMPONENT

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical fiber grating which can control a reflected wavelength and is not deteriorated even if it is used for a long time, and the size of which is reduced. SOLUTION: A light source for optical pumping 12 is connected to the input port of a WDM(wavelength division multiplexing) coupler 11, and the optical fiber grating 13 is connected to the output port of the WDM coupler 11. The optical fiber grating 13 is formed by providing a refractive index variation on a rare earth-added optical fiber. Exciting light is made incident on the optical fiber grating 13, and the reflected wavelength of the optical fiber grating is changed by changing the effective refractive index of the optical fiber through a temperature rise caused in the non-radiative relaxation process of a rare earth ion.
