PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for inspecting a spacer for an optical cable, by which the shape conditions of the slot groove of a spacer are detected easily and accurately. SOLUTION: The method for inspecting a spacer for the optical cable is for inspecting the spacer 2 for the optical cable, having a plurality of spiral slot grooves which houses the optical fiber on the outer peripheral face of the spacer. Using the method, the linear speed of the unwound spacer 2 is measured, and the distance to the surface of the spacer 2 is measured by disposing a laser displacement detecting instrument 15 close to the unwound spacer, the groove is detected and counted by the measured linear speed and the variation in the distance to the spacer 2 and the formation pitch of the slot grooves is detected, on the basis of the time in which a prescribed number of the grooves is counted, and of the linear speed. As a result, accurate formation pitch is measured, without damaging the spacer 2.
