The roller has a surface profiling which comprises several outwardly protruding wear-resistant profiled bodies (3) whose wear resistance is matched to the stresses on the surface which vary over the rolling width so that approximately uniform wear occurs over the entire width of the roller (1,2). Profiled bodies of a greater hardness are provided in the middle.
