TURBULENT MIXING OF FLUIDS

Apparatus for turbulent mixing of fluids in, combustion apparatus. Conduits extend into a combustion chamber in a direction transverse to the direction of travel of a first fluid stream. Each conduit has a first outlet for injecting a jet of a second fluid, such as air, into the first fluid stream in said transverse direction. The jets are directed such that they are offset from said axis. The jets combine so as to form a first swirling stream of second fluid around said axis. The first and second fluid streams combine to form a first spiral flow path along the chamber. The wall of the chamber may have at least one passage therethrough extending in a direction transverse to the direction of flow of the first fluid stream. The second fluid passes into the chamber through said passage and combines with said first fluid stream.
