PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device of a translucent reflection type which has a reflection mode and a transmission mode, improves the brightness of display in the transmission mode and has excellent visual recognizability, and an electronic apparatus having the same. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device of the translucent reflection type is held with liquid crystals 4 between an upper substrate 3 and lower substrate 2 facing each other, is provided with an upper polarizing plate 13 and a lower reflection polarizing layer 6 above and below the liquid crystals 4, is provided with a back light (illuminator) 5 on the outside surface side of the lower substrate 2 and makes display by switching of the transmission mode and the reflection mode. The lower reflection polarizing layer 6 is the reflection polarizing layer of the translucent reflection type which has a transmission axis and a reflection axis intersecting orthogonally the transmission axis and reflects a portion of the component of incident light parallel to the reflection axis and transmits a portion thereof. The lower side of the lower reflection polarizing layer 6 is provided with a lower polarizing layer 20. |
