PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shock absorber which can improve absorbing efficiency of a shock (energy), by using a ball screw constituted by a screw shaft and a nut member so as to increase an operating stroke in a cylinder of a piston. SOLUTION: A first screw part 2 of right or left winding is formed in one end side, a second screw part 3 of opposite winding thereto is formed in the other end side, a screw shaft 1 connected to freely rotate relating to a first prescribed object 4 in the other end, a first nut member 7, a second nut member 11, and a cylinder member 6, are provided, the first nut member 7 is fitted in freely slide into the cylinder member 6 so as to function as a piston, the nut member 7 is connected to freely swivel relating to a second prescribed object 9, the nut member 11 is fixed to the closed end side of the cylinder member 6, a spring 21 axially giving prescribed bias force relating to the nut member 7 is provided, inside the cylinder member 6 is charged with fluid, additionally an orifice 16 is provided in the nut member 7.
