Method for executing program code in which primary instruction words are stored in a register (1) and then decoded in a first decoder (2) to generate a second instruction sequence. From the second instruction sequence instruction word parts are generated for controlling the function units. The registers are clocked to minimize power usage during execution of instructions. The invention also relates to a corresponding processor arrangement for implementation of the inventive method.
