A dental tool (T) comprises a delivery tube (2) to deliver a stream of pressurised gas containing abrasive media via a nozzle outlet (3) to a tooth surface (E). A cap member (6) is fitted over the leading end of the tool and has a branch (7) supplying unpressurised water. The branch is located rearward of the nozzle outlet (3) and the walls (9, 10, 11) of the bore (8) of the cap member (6) are shaped so that a curtain (C) of water is formed about the gas stream.
