PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance the display luminance of a reflection type liquid crystal display device provided with a frontlight. SOLUTION: In the reflection type liquid crystal display device wherein the frontlight consisting of a light source 1 and a light guide plate 2, a polarizing plate 3 and a reflection type liquid crystal cell are layered in this order, the polarizing plate is used, the plate having an anisotropically scattering layer 9 scattering one of orthogonal linearly polarized light beams and substantially transmitting the other, emitting least 50% of the incident light beam made incident from the frontlight and having a polarization surface parallel to the scattering axis of the anisotropically scattering layer 9 toward the reflection type liquid crystal cell side and converting at least 10% of the emitted light beam into a polarized light beam. |
