<p>An image forming method and apparatus using a contact type transfer member and a refuge mechanism for transferring a toner image to a continuous medium, thereby to stabilize the transfer of the toner image to any of various continuous media and to reduce the unnecessary toner transfer from the contact type transfer member to the continuous medium. This unnecessary toner transfer is caused by the concentration of a contact force when a transfer member (16) moved by the refuge mechanism is brought into contact with a continuous medium (25). In order to disperse the force at the contact, therefore, the contact operation is done by giving a velocity to the conveyance of the continuous medium (25) and the rotation of the transfer member (16). This makes it possible to reduce the transfer of the toner from the transfer member (16) to the continuous medium (25). It is also possible to reduce the rubbing at the contact thereby to reduce contamination of the continuous medium more.</p> |
