PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a composition for a recording material having an excellent aging stability and to provide the recording material having no face defect and an excellent image quality. SOLUTION: The composition for the recording material comprises a polyvinyl alcohol having a mean saponification degree of 95 to 100% and a color difference value YI of 15 or more or preferably the polyvinyl alcohol and one type or more of a compound of formula (A) of R<1> -OH, wherein R<1> is a 3-20C alkyl group, a 6-20C aryl group or a 6-20C aralkyl group. A method for manufacturing the same is provided.
