An electroacoustic converter (1) for a component operating with surface waves, in particular for a surface wave filter, is disclosed, whereby a variation in the gaps (4), in the gap region, with regard to at least one feature selected from transverse arrangement, size and form is carried out in order to suppress interfering excitation. As a result of the limited dimensional change ( DELTA D) in relation to the finger length the desired main excitation in the converter remains essentially unchanged, the interfering excitations on the other hand are rendered ineffective by shifting or splitting up.
