PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive tubular member rotating apparatus having no complicated mechanism and having no fear damaging or staining a tubular member. SOLUTION: The tubular member rotating apparatus is equipped with a first taper member 39 supported by a first bearing 34 to be rotationally driven by a drive motor 35 and having a taper end reduced in diameter toward the leading end thereof, a second taper member 50 supported in a freely revolvable manner by a second bearing 47 arranged in opposed relation to the leading end of the first taper member 39 to have the same rotary axis center O and provided so as to be energized axially to advance and retreat and having a taper end reduced in diameter toward the leading end thereof, slide actuators 30 and 45 for allowing both bearings 34 and 37 to axially advance and retreat, a tubular member feed mechanism 25 for feeding a glass pipe 56 to the position between the leading ends of both taper members 39 and 50 so as to set the pipe axis of the glass pipe 56 under the axis center O and a marking mechanism 26 for applying marking to the glass pipe 56. The glass pipe 56 is held by the taper surface parts of both taper members 39 and 50 so that the axis centers O coincide to be rotated and marking is applied to the glass pipe 56 by the marking mechanism 26.
