The invention relates to a control method for gas burners, for the preparati on of a gas/air mixture. According to the invention, the ionisation signal is exclusively used to set the air/gas flow ratio depending on the gas quality when the burner flame completely envelopes the sensor generating the ionisation signal. Apart from the above condition, in other words, when the burner flame does not completely envelope the sensor generating the ionisati on signal, the gas/air mixture is regulated depending upon a previously determined gas/air flow ratio.
