A V.T.O.L. aircraft which may be disc-shaped square, oblong or triangular, comprises a central engine 7 for providing vertical thrust via four vents 14. A further engine 19, mounted on a turntable 16, or a rotatable central thrust vent delivering thrust from the engine 7 (figures 6-8) is provided for delivering horizontal thrust. Multiple engines, which may be of the jet, rocket or plasma type, may be used. The flight deck 2 may be located above the central engine 7, with accommodation for fuel, payload, weapons, or passengers being provided for in the body surrounding the central engine. The aircraft may be used for fire-fighting purposes. Valves 21 control the thrust from the vents 14, whereby thrust, pitch and bank control may be provided. Further control is provided by puffer jets 12. |
