PURPOSE: An apparatus and method for controlling operation of reciprocating compressor is provided to optimally operate the compressor. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus includes a load detecting part(200) detecting voltage loaded on both ends of a triac(Tr1) as load; a control part(300) determining stroke instruction value according to load detected by the load detecting part and outputting switching control signal according to the stroke instruction value; and an electric circuit part(100) intermitting alternating current power impressed to the triac according to the switching control signal output by the control part to impress fixed voltage for driving a motor(M).
