[Also in Division B2] A stem 16 carrying one or more devices, such as electrostatic spray guns G, issuing wet, e.g. paints or lacquers, or dry coating material, is connected to a support 12 by parallel equallength links 13, 14, the link 13 being extended by an arm 22 to form a driving lever the oscillation of which effects oscillatory translatory movement of the stem 16. The arm 22 is oscillated by an electric motor 54 through reduction gearing 53, a crank 52 and a connecting rod 27. To vary the amplitude of the stem movement the pivotal connection between the connecting rod 27 and the arm 22 is manually adjusted along the arm, and to vary the mid-point of the stem movement without significantly changing its amplitude the crank 52 is manually adjusted generally about the fulcrum 20 of the lever 13, 22. The arm 22 may be straight, or preferably, as shown, arcuate, and the crank adjustment path may be arcuate or, as shown, straight and inclined with respect to the support 12. The stem movement may be along generally inclined or horizontal paths or, as shown, along a generally vertical path, the support 12 being vertical and mounted on a wheeled base 10 so that the stem is movable with respect to the workpiece. The rod 27 is pivoted to a yoke 26 carrying an adjusting pinion 25 meshing teeth 24 on the arm 22. The pinion 25 is rotated by a handle 39 and the yoke 26 is locked with respect to the arm 22 by a screw clamp actuated by a handle 42. The motor 54, gear 53 and clamp 52 are slidably mounted on an inclined support 60 and are moved therealong by a screw 62 actuated by a handle 63. The adjustments of the yoke 26 and the crank 52 may be effected whilst the stem 16 is moving. The spray guns G are adjustably positioned on the stem 16, the guns being mounted on rods 102 screw-clamped in blocks 104 which slide on the stem and are located thereon by spring-loaded manually-released detents 110. Electrostatic gun charging is by a power pack P. The links 13, 14 are insulating. |
