In a glass melting furnace having an elongated refractory tank 2 containing the molten batch, fuel, which may be solid, liquid or gaseous, and combustion air are introduced into the furnace through separate ports 3, 4 on both sides of the furnace, the ports on either side being disposed in mutually offset relationship. Exhaust ports 5, 6, 7 in the crown of the furnace lead the hot waste gases to a flue 9 which may be connected to one or more heat-exchangers or radiation recuperators for the purpose of preheating the combustion air.</p> |
