Tuberculostatic N,N-diacylhydrazines - active against mycobacterium tuberculosis

N, N'-Diarylhydrazine derivs. of formula (I):- X-NH.O.CHR.CO.NH.NHAc (I) (where X = H or acyl, R =H, opt. substd. alkyl, opt. substd. aralkyl, or opt. substd. aryl, and Ac = carboxy acyl); are tuberculostats. (I) are prepd. by condensing (a) an acyl hydrazine with an activated ANH.O.CHR.CO- residue or (b) an activated acyl gp. Ac, with ANH.O.CHR.CO.NH.NH2, (where A = acyl or an N-protecting gp.), and deprotecting where necessary.
