<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique which can effectively decrease the amount of a biodegradable organic waste, such as excess sludge or garbage, by a very simple system at a very low running cost and can recover energy. SOLUTION: The treatment method for an organic waste, such as organic sludge or garbage, comprises supplying the organic waste to a biological liquidizing tank to aerate the waste with an oxygen-containing gas to subject a part of the waste to biooxidation, causing the waste to dwell in the tank while the inside temperature of the tank is being kept at least 40 deg.C higher than that of the organic waste by heat generated by the biooxidation to liquidize the waste, and subjecting the waste liquidized at the elevated temperature to methane fermentation. The apparatus for the treatment is also provided. Preferably, the waste is concentrated by a mechanical concentration means before supplying to the biological liquidizing tank.</p> |
