PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize a paper holder capable of calculating the usage of roll paper, and enabling announcement and countermeasures for suppressing the excess use of the roll paper when the usage exceeds preliminarily set proper amounts. SOLUTION: This paper holder is provided with an infrared emitting element 36a and an infrared receiving element 36b for irradiating the surface of roll paper 31 with infrared rays, and for detecting the strength of the intensity of the reflected lights and a controller 37 for outputting the instruction signal of the excess use of the roll paper 31 when the operating state that the roll paper 31 is pulled out in not less than a prescribed time among the operating states detected by the infrared receiving element 36b exceeds the prescribed number of times, and when the usage of the roll paper 31 excess a preliminarily set prescribed value. Thus, the announcement and countermeasures for suppressing the excess usage of the roll paper can be carried out.
