Supported membrane, preparation and use

Production of a supported artificial membrane (A) involves: <??>(a) contacting a functionalized surface with a mixture of specific ligands (L) and phospholipid supports (P) which can bond with the surface; and <??>(b) contacting the treated surface with lipids to form a lipid bilayer supported by (P). <??>Independent claims are included for: <??>(1) purifying membrane proteins (MP's), involving contacting (A) with a membrane preparation containing the MP to be purified, under conditions such the MP is introduced into (A), and applying a lipid flux; <??>(2) the membranes (A), comprising a lipid bilayer fixed to a carrier via (P) (defining a space between the bilayer and the carrier) and containing (L) (specific for a molecule of interest) covalently bonded to the carrier and exposed in the space; and <??>(3) the membranes (A) obtained by the above process.
