The present invention relates to a method of screening compounds for pharmacological activities using nematode worms. In particular, the present invention relates to a method of screening compounds for activity in treating and/or preventing muscular dystrophy using a nematode worm having a loss of function of the dystrophin (dys-1) gene which is preferably caused by mutation or RNA interference. The inventive screening method is conducted under such conditions that the nematode worm shows a phenotype of at least nearly complete paralysis. This phenotype is especially suited for screening tests.
