PURPOSE: An apparatus for generating a high voltage by using triac is provided to miniaturize a high voltage generator by removing an intermediate tap from a ballast, separating the ballast from the high voltage generator, and using a high voltage transformer. CONSTITUTION: An electric power is inputted into or outputted from a ballast(L2). An output voltage of the ballast(L2) is applied to a diode(D1) and a plurality of resistors(R1,R2). An RF(Radio Frequency) transformer is used for triggering the output voltage of the ballast(L2) to a gate of a capacitor(Q1) and applying charging current to a condenser(C2). The current and the high voltage are applied to the first side and the second side of the RF transformer, respectively. A high voltage discharge lamp is turned on or off according to the voltage applied to the second side of the RF transformer. A pulse is not generated from the second coil since the gate of the capacitor(Q1) is not triggered by the diode(D1) when the condenser(C2) is fully charged.
