PURPOSE: To reduce the size of a gas-insulated switchgear for effective utilization of the space of power plant/substation and improved economy. CONSTITUTION: The gas-insulated switchgear comprises a fixed contact piece and a movable contact piece which is attachable/detachable from the fixed contact piece. The identical buffer device is used for braking operation of the movable contact piece in both cut-off operation and throw-in operation of the movable contact piece. Thus, the energy efficiency of the entire apparatus improves, to realize a compact apparatus in which a driving energy is further reduced relative to the gas-insulated switchgear of the same specification.
