PURPOSE: A character inputting method is provided to enable a user to easily input characters without a plurality of key-in operations by installing a character extension button at a key pad of a mobile terminal, e.g. a cellular phone or a PDA, and expressing corresponding characters on buttons of the key pad. CONSTITUTION: The method comprises steps of a user setting an input mode by executing a mode toggle for selecting a wanted character set, the user pushing a digit button with a character extension button(330) to input wanted characters and numbers, and displaying the characters or numbers designated by pushing the corresponding buttons. In the case of a Hangul input mode, a character displayed in the middle of a key button is input just by pushing a corresponding digit button, a character displayed in the upper of the key button is done by pushing the corresponding digit button with an upper part(310) of the character extension button(330), and a character displayed in the lower of the key button is done by pushing the corresponding digit button with a lower part(370) of the character extension button(330). The method can be applied to English or Japanese character input mode.
