According to the invention, a wireless communications device (an End-Poin t) in wireless network performs a Role Change to become Master in a connection with a network Access Point, with the Access Point to which it is connected actin g as a Slave. A connection is then made to another Access Point (or Bluetooth radio ) with the End-Point being Master of both connections simultaneously. The connectio n with the first Access Point is then terminated. Finally, the End-Point performs a reverse Role Change and becomes a Slave again in the normal manner. Accordingly , the present invention removes the requirement for an End-Point to implement a transient scatternet when being handed off from one Access Point to another in a Bluetooth network.
