PURPOSE: To provide an image forming device where the ability to clear away toner which has deeply entered the foam holes of a transfer roller is securely improved without causing transfer roller deterioration and an abnormal transfer due to the deteribration and impairing the ability to carry a transfer material. CONSTITUTION: The image forming device comprises an image carrier 1, the transfer rotary member 5 which is in contact with the image carrier 1, a driving means 26 for rotating the image carrier 1 and the transfer rotary member 5, and a means for varying the peripheral speed of the driving means 26. The device transfers a toner image, formed on the image carrier 1, onto a transfer material P by passing the transfer material P to the transfer position where the image carrier 1 and the transfer rotary member 5 are in contact with each other and by applying the transfer rotary member 5 a bias, and also cleans the transfer rotary member 5 by applying the member 5 a bias and by transferring the toner sticking to the member 5 to the image carrier 1. In the image forming device, the peripheral speeds of the image carrier 1 and transfer rotary member 5 are switched between the transfer operation and the cleaning operation. |
