An interchangeable latch system for configuring a custom fitted inner helmet as a standard platform for mounting different outer helmets thereon. The latch system includes a pair of strikers mounted onto temple panels of the inner helmet and tracks or channel assemblies mounted onto facing inner surfaces of the outer helmet. A fitting fixture may be used to custom fit the inner helmet so that the strikers are located at a preset distance and orientation from the wearer's eyes. For outer helmets equipped with helmet mounted displays, the display may be distanced and oriented from the tracks based on the known striker-to-eye distance, to establish a desired viewing distance. |
