PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide hexagonal ferrite powder easy for distributed processing and excellent in distributing and storing property to make a magnetic layer when preparing coating liquid of the layer and provide a coated magnetic recording medium containing this power and excellent in run durability and electromagnetic conversion. SOLUTION: This hexagonal ferrite powder has a coating consisting of zinc orthosilicate to cover their surfaces and the amount of the zinc orthosilicate is 0.5 to 50 mass % of the ferrite powder except its covering layer. The magnetic recording medium contains this powder. |
