PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve working responsibility of a hydraulic actuator which lubricates a timing chain and functions as a variable valve timing mechanism, without having to provide special hydraulic lines or parts. SOLUTION: In the lubricating structure of a timing chain where a crankshaft is provided with a sprocket, a cylinder head is provided with a cam spring at the camshaft for the open-close action of a suction and exhaust valve, and oil is supplied by engaging the sprocket and the timing chain 42, the hydraulic actuator is provided at a part of the cam sprocket, a VVT hydraulic passage 68 for supplying oil into the hydraulic actuator during the working of the hydraulic actuator, is provided extended in the shaft center direction of the camshaft, a cam side oil passage communicating with the VVT hydraulic passage is formed in the outside direction from the shaft center of the camshaft, is communicated with the cam side oil passage at an end, as well as the oil passage opening to the timing chain at the other end is formed in the outside direction from the axis line of the sprocket.
