PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light-emitting element having a relatively simple constitution that can efficiently emit intermediate-color or blended-color light. SOLUTION: This light-emitting element has an n-type layer, an active layer sandwiched between p-type layers, and a plurality of photoluminescent layers, which absorb at least parts of the light emitted from the active layer and emit light rays of different wavelengths from that of the light emitted from the active layer. Each photoluminescent layer is sandwiched between light-confining layers. In addition, the active layer and photoluminescent layers are composed of In-containing nitride semiconductor layers, and at least part of the photoluminescent layers has a In mixed crystal ratio larger than that of the active layer. |
