PURPOSE: A jackscrew device is provided to drive a high power gearbox with a relatively small low-torque motor and to endure the drive load of a nut exceeding the steady stop torque of the motor. CONSTITUTION: A jackscrew device(10) for converting a reciprocal rotational motion into a reciprocal linear motion is composed of a nut(12) threaded on a screw(14) for reciprocal translational motion and against rotational motion, a motor drive-connected to the screw and the motor reversibly rotating the screw for a longitudinal screw axis(18) to drive the nut through the reciprocal translational motion, and a lost motion drive linkage connected between the motor and the nut. The lost motion drive linkage allows a lost rotational motion between the motor and the nut for the motor to accelerate before bearing the load of the rotation of the screw and the driving of the nut translational motion.
