The telescopic shaft has a number of coaxial elements or shafts (3 to 7) which collapse one into the next. The lowest element is held on a platform (8,9). The platform has a tubular element (130 holding the uppermost telescopic element in the collapsed position. Displacement of the coaxial elements is independent of the raising mechanism (11,12) using secondary levers.
