PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader that can reduce the occurrence of image slippage and enhance the performance of reading. SOLUTION: The image reader senses an edge of a first side of an original in the main scanning direction, on the basis of an output of a CCD 209 for each reading of originals and respectively revises an output timing of a main scanning synchronization signal SYNC- CCD of the CCD 209 and an output timing of a main scanning synchronization signal SYNC- CS of a read sensor being a contact sensor for to updating each output timing of each main scanning synchronization signal.
