PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lifting carrier position retaining device for a multistory warehouse capable of loading and retrieving stored loads such as vehicles and the like at a high speed by putting the lifting carrier at the same grade level as the warehouse. SOLUTION: In this multistory warehouse, the lifting carrier 4 held by a rope 7 such as a chain is vertically moved along a hoistway 3 located at a side face side of a storing shelf to store and retrieve the loads 15 such as vehicles in multistory storing shelves. The lifting carrier is composed of a lifting base 5 and a slide frame 6 laterally slidably mounted on the lifting base. The slide frame is provided with a male or female engagement member 17 (18), and the storing shelf is provided with an engagement member 18 (17) engageable with the engagement member mounted on the slide frame. The slide frame is laterally slid to the storing shelf side, and the engagement members 17, 18 are allowed to be engaged with each other.
